Studiogast Luís Antunes Pena im Gespräch mit Dirk Specht und Dietmar Bonnen spielt auch ein live Studio Konzert. Luís ist Komponist elektroakustischer und instrumentaler Musik. In seiner Musik verwendet er häufig verschiedene Erscheinungsformen von Geräuschen und integriert kompositorische Methoden, die die Mehrdeutigkeit des Schreibens, des Klangs, der Form und der Vorstellungen von Realität und Erinnerung fördern. In seinen Kompositionen beschäftigt er sich mit dem, was er "das Bewusstsein der Ungewissheit" nennt: die Integration von Methoden, welche die Mehrdeutigkeit des Schreibens fördern, und die Einbeziehung verschiedener Erscheinungsformen von Noise in den kreativen Prozess, neue Formen von Rhythmus und Rauschen. In seinen Werken kommen oft verschiedene Instrumente und Klänge zum Einsatz, von selbstgebauten elektronischen Schaltkreisen und Megaphonen über akustische Instrumente der westlichen Musiktradition bis hin zu anderen Schlaginstrumenten wie Steinen, Klängen von analogen Synthesizern und computer-generierten Strukturen. Seine jüngste Produktion umfasst Werke, in denen er selbstgebaute Hardware-Elektronik auf der Basis von Mikrocomputern einsetzt, um die Räumlichkeit zu steuern (The small book of misreadings), oder um Instrumente wie Schlagzeug oder Tuba zu erweitern (27 Ossos, Too Low To Fail). In Das Gedächtnis Gebrauchsanweisung für Violoncello, Schlagzeug, Elektronik und Ensemble mischt er improvisierte und geschriebene Musik und konstruiert die Form eines Puzzles aus unmittelbaren und entfernten Erinnerungen. In Tracking Noise #4 wird der Fluss einer feststehenden elektronischen Musik von den drei Performern mit Hilfe von Knöpfen gesteuert und in Echtzeit durch verschiedene Geräuschquellen wie lose Klinkenkabel und gedämpftes Licht transformiert.

Luís Antunes Pena has created a radiophonic composition for the Zusammenspielen - Heimstudio series. The piece was created in a small synthesiser corner in his bedroom.
Musical forms emerge here from individual loops: ‘always new patches, always new connections, always unknown circuits,’ says Pena. The "Zusammenspielen" campaign was originally aimed at musicians in times of cancelled concerts.
With the Heimstudio series, we have expanded the project to include the work of composers. Since then, new in-house productions have been created in cooperation with SWR Kultur.

Einführung in die Komposition mit Hardware - Komponieren mit erweiterten Instrumenten
Die jüngsten Innovationen in der Elektronik auf dem Gebiet der Mikro- computer und Sensoren führen zu einer fortlaufenden Miniaturisierung der Technologie für den Umgang mit Klang. In diesem Workshop wird der Au- tor einige Strategien und Methoden für das Komponieren mit einer gezielten Kombination aus Hardware und Software vorstellen. Von DIY-Elektronik bis zu hochpräzisem Umgang mit Musik-Software, werden Projekte vorgestellt und auch in der Praxis umgesetzt. Am ersten Tag wird der Fokus auf das erweiterte Instrument gerichtet, das aktuell in Zusammenarbeit mit dem Sax- ophonisten Patrick Stadler entsteht. Am zweiten Tag beschäftigen wir uns mit der Herstellung eines simplen Synthesizers, der am Ende des Workshops nach Hause mitgenommen werden kann.

The title of the work establishes a connection to the 1978 novel by the French writer George Perec, whose book La vie mode dʼemploi constructs a novel in which the various stories relate to each other like the pieces of a puzzle.
Das Gedächtnis Gebrauchsanweisung follows the formal idea of Perec's novel. It consists of 12 small sections, each containing a musical discourse that is both self-contained and open to possible continuation. What connects all the sections, however different, contrasting, and even contradictory in style they may seem, are the various degrees of proximity or distance to a listening experience, to a pre-existing musical work.
In Das Gedächtnis Gebrauchsanweisung there are various ways of establishing relationships between sections. One commonly used way is the use of audio recordings and their instrumental imitation: the sample recreates an acoustic experience, which in turn is reinterpreted by the acoustic instruments. Or the opposite, the sample or electronics imitate what the instruments played. By the nature of the process itself, and by the use of different means, any imitation in this case is a transformation. It is a transformation that illustrates the impossibility of imitation. Imitation and transformation are thus two essential elements in the creation of form and in the relational strategies between the different domains.
Improvisation, which appeals to memory in a very particular way, is perhaps the most human and personal kind of transformation. Ultimately, any attempt to reproduce a reality through memory is at the same time a form of ultra-personal transformation, since imitation involves not only the intrinsic transformation of the entire attempt, but also the state of mind, emotions and feelings.
Das Gedächtnis Gebrauchsanweisung is an appeal to the use of memory as a means of grasping the whole. Since it was written entirely during the pandemic, it could not fail to be a work that embodies the fears, hesitations and hopes that accompanied us all. Perhaps for this very reason it is one of the most personal works I have ever made.
